The "two cities" are Paris in the time of the French Revolution, and London. Dr. Manette, a French physician, having been called in to treat a young peasant and his sister, realizes that they have been cruelly abused by the Marquis de St. Evremonde and his brother. To ensure Dr. Manette's silence, the Marquis has him confined for eighteen years in the Bastille. The doctor has just been released, demented, when the story opens. He is brought to England where he gradually recovers his health and his sanity.
Charles Darnay, concealing under that false name his identity as the nephew of the cruel Marquis, has left France and renounced his heritage. He falls in love with Lucie, Dr. Manette's daughter, and they are happily married. During the Terror, he goes to Paris to save a servant condemned by the mob. Darnay himself is arrested, condemned to death, and is saved at the last moment by Sydney Carton, a reckless wastrel who acts out of devotion to Lucie. Carton smuggles Darnay out of prison and takes his place on the scaffold, declaring "It's a far, far better thing I do than I have ever done before," surely one of the most quoted lines in all the history of literature.

Six Reasons Employees Sue Their Boss
This is not a complete and exhaustive list of all employees that bring lawsuits against their employers, but merely a summary of the kinds of things that I have observed that prompted employees to file a lawsuit. These are some common reasons for why employees sought to sue their employer or actually sued their employers:
1. Lack of clarity on what is expected from the employee. Many employees quit and then sue their employers, because of a lack of clarity of what is expected from the employee. Employees seek legal advice when the hours, the pay, the tasks, or other terms are unclear. They apparently feel exploited when the scope of their duties exceeds the expectations that were established during the orientation.
Employers should be clear as to what is expected of employees from the very beginning when the employment relationship is established. For some reason or other employees often feel exploited when their expectations and actual duties are conflicting. Employee's quitting or contemplating quitting often seek legal advise when they feel they have been exploited, and even though there might not be a basis for a lawsuit on the grounds that the employee feels exploited, a skilled attorney will know what questions to ask and a lawsuit may result.
2. Terminating a long term employee. Long term employees often seek legal advice when they are terminated, regardless of what the reason is or even if there is no reason. Long term employee's often feel the employer owes them for their long term commitment to the employer, and often they feel they have a right to the job. Generally there is no actionable cause of action against the employer, when the employee is terminated, but if the employer failed to comply with all rules especially rest periods, meal breaks, and over time pay, the employee would have a viable lawsuit. Termination of long term employees should be done with great caution, and the employer should make an effort to end the relationship on good terms.
3. Money hungry employees. Employers should be very careful when selecting new employees that give the impression they are money hungry. Employees asking for raises, advances, or filing bankruptcy, or otherwise indicating they are in need of money, often seek legal counsel shortly after they quit.
These are often the same type of employees that have a drinking problem or drug addiction. If the employer failed to document everything pertaining to meal breaks, rest periods, and actual hours worked a viable lawsuit might result. Money hungry employees often look to the legal system as a means of obtaining money.
4. Hiring employees as independent contractors. Most independent contractor agreements are not valid, because they lack something or because the employer is acting as an employer and the contractor acts as en employee. Employees should not use independent contractor agreements to hire employees. Independent contractors should be independent contractors and employees should be employees.
Using an independent contractor's agreement is a problem that come back to hurt the employer. Depending on the circumstances the employer is not safe for about four years after the fact.
There are also many disadvantages to the employee hired as independent contractor and as they try to remedy the disadvantages they often seek legal counsel.
5. Over religious employees. Some over religious employees often seek to advance their religious beliefs at every opportunity. This leads to problems for employers, because religion necessarily involves potential liability for religious discrimination, it could be the religious advocate or it could be other employees. Employer's should address the issue of religion and make inquiry as to whether there is a need to accommodate religious beliefs or practices.
This should be done very early on and there should be clarity so as to avoid conflict among employees. The employer should be sensitive as to religious views of all its employees and be certain to avoid any type of discrimination or perhaps even refrain from commenting on religion in the workplace to avoid any type of conflict that could result in a lawsuit.
6. Mistreating employees. No one likes to be mistreated and mistreated employees often seek legal counsel. Such things as bounced payroll checks, late payroll checks, bank fees on for cashing payroll checks, unauthorized payroll deductions, and other such things irritate employees and often the employee is right and the dollar fee to cash a payroll check at the employer's bank can turn into a ,000 judgment against the employer.
Employers are not required to be generous, but they are required to be fair. The Labor Code imposes many requirements pertaining to fairness and at the minimal employer's should adhere to the law to minimize the number of potential lawsuits.
These are six reasons that why employees are prompted to seek legal counsel from my firm which often leads to viable lawsuits. No one is immune from a lawsuit, but employers should be sensitive to their actions and employee needs. The reason for the call to an attorney is usually not the basis of a lawsuit, but is what initiates the contact with an attorney that often results in a lawsuit.

DTV, DVB-T, Or ATSC - Is the World Really Ready For the Digital TV Changeover?
Gil Scott Heron famously said once that the revolution will not be televised.
It's funny then that in the world of broadcast television there is a revolution and, unless something is done about informing people about what Digital TV actually is, then there's going to be a group of people without any television signal at all.
What is worse, ecommerce operators, wholesale dropship electronics suppliers, and eBay traders will probably be the ones to be caught in the crossfire.
It's true that the world is in the middle of a digital TV transition. Broadcasters are gradually switching from analog to digital TV. From VHF an UHF television signals to DVB-T, ATSC, ISDB-T and DMB.
Scandinavia and Northern Europe started the transition to DVB-T in 2003, which they completed in 2007.
The US started the transition to ATSC from NTSC in 2007 and is scheduled to complete it in February 2009.
The majority of the early adaptors started putting wheels in motion for the DTV change between 2007 and 2009. They are expected to completely cut off analog broadcasts in 2012.
But is the average Joe and Josephine ready for the digital switch over?
Retailers, and search trend watchers are beginning to suspect this is not the case.
The good news is that people have partially come to turns with the digital switchover and, for the most part, have stopped asking 'what is digital TV'.
But there is still a disturbing lack of understanding around the standards used in different countries.
DTV standards are not the same in every country with about four digital broadcasting standards being used.
Much of the world (All of Europe, most of Asia, Large parts of Oceania, all of Africa and sections of South America) has gone down, or chosen to go down the DVB route.
This includes DVB-T for terrestrial digital TV channels, DVB-S for satellite television and DVB-M for mobile television (although many mobile TV devices and signals currently work on the DVB T standard).
The US, Canada, Mexico, South Korea and some US-controlled territories in the Pacific Islands will watch ATSC TV.
China, Hong Kong and Macau use DMB-T/H and Japan and Brazil use ISDB. Japan uses the ISDB-T version while Brazil uses the SBTVD-T version, which was developed for the South American terrain and conditions.
It's perhaps not surprising that people are so confused.
Global online retailers, eBay traders, Chinese Wholesale electronic products manufacturers and wholesale dropship electronics suppliers say it is common for their customers to order the wrong item.
It didn't matter if it was a digital TV tuner, USB TV tuner, a car TV tuner or a portable device with digital TV receivers the results were the same.
In fact one representative of China's first internet wholesaler said that the confusion over DVB-T and ATSC alone had led to problems for customers and the company.
This was even before the lesser-used ISDB-T and DMB came into play.
So, in essence electronic ecommerce operators are facing a big problem with digital DTV that bricks and mortar operators don't even have to face... that is until they start sourcing stuff from overseas.
So what steps do we need to take from here and what can ecommerce operators do to prevent customer complaints and bad feedback?
One thing they could do is put a notice on the bottom of all products notifying customers where they will work.
While this won't stop everybody from buying a gadget which is set up for the wrong standard it will work most of the time and guarantee them an extra layer of indemnity when they come back to complain.
So, for example, if you are trying to sell an ATSC digital TV tuner you could put 'Will work in USA, Canada and Mexico' at the bottom of the description while you could put 'Will not work in the US and Canada at the bottom of the description on a DVB T USB.
By doing this, retailers should be able sell most types of digital TV converter, laptop TV tuner and in fact any DTV product without too much difficulty.
So is the global community ready for digital TV? Probably not.
But if ecommerce operators prepare themselves they could avoid any fall out over confusion between different DTV standards.
